MILEMBE GIRLS SCHOOL CREATES AN ESSENTIAL SAFE HAVEN FOR TANZANIAN GIRLS, EMPOWERING THEM TO GROW INTO STRONG, HEALTHY WOMEN.
Our newest project is an all-girls boarding school—the first in Misungwi District, one of the poorest areas in Mwanza region where there are few options for girls to complete their secondary school education. There is an enormous impact on the reduction of poverty when girls are given opportunities to go to school and enter the workforce. The Milembe Girls School will provide a safe living situation where girls can successfully complete their studies and grow into confident, independent young women, and inspire future generations to do the same.

Our partners at the architectural firm Scattergood Design, whose prestigious body of work includes the Cambridge Public Library, have volunteered hundreds of hours working on the new school. These world-renowned architects spent three years meticulously researching and planning the design for the Milembe Girls School, ensuring it will be a school of the highest integrity. The school will be built to last, using high quality materials, all of which are locally sourced and sustainable.
When all phases are complete, the school will accommodate 420 girls, promote leadership, STEM, entrepreneurship, social justice and care for the environment. The campus will include:
- 10 dormitories (each with 40 girls)
- 10 classrooms
- 4 laboratories

- 14 houses for teachers and dorm mothers

- showers and composting latrines
- sports fields and netball courts
- guard house and surrounding campus wall
